Guidelines for Outdoor Morning Prayer

Beginning on Sunday, July 12, we will hold an outdoor Morning Prayer service Sundays at 9:00 am on the lawn behind the former rectory on the corner of Grove Avenue and Maple Avenue.

Here is what to expect at this service:

  • Please note that all public health guidelines apply at all times, everywhere on the St. John’s campus: This include wearing masks, social distancing, using hand sanitizer, etc.
  • Per New York State Guidelines, “If, within the last 14 days, you have had any COVID-19 symptoms, a positive COVID-19 test or close contact with any confirmed or suspected COVID-19 case, please do not attend.”
  • Per New York State Guidelines, we are required to make and retain a list of everyone who attends each worship service or gathering.
  • This service will last less than 30 minutes in order to prepare for the zoom service at 10:00 AM.
  • Bring your own chair and your own bulletin. A pdf of the bulletin containing the week’s readings will be posted or emailed, which you may download/print or follow along on your phone.
  • There will be no handouts at this service and no singing.
  • There will be two ushers to help guide you in and to your spot, socially distanced from each other.
  • One of the ushers will be close to the curb/street on Grove Avenue before you “enter” the lot on the paved walkway so the approach to the lot will be visible.
  • The second usher will be just inside the opening to direct people left to a designated place from which to worship, beginning from the front row, which is toward the Maple Avenue end of the lot.
  • You will be asked to fill in the rows from the spot closest to the “former rectory” to the spot closest to Grove.
  • We are using a combination of hoola hoops and small colorful cones to designate standing/sitting areas 10 feet apart in case families need a little more room. Readers will be asked ahead of time and will bring the readings with them.
  • After worship, people will exit by rows beginning with the back row. You may exit onto Grove Avenue or onto Linden Avenue, between the playground and the current rectory. The ushers will then leave followed by the officiants.
  • Please note: At this time, here is no “rain date” for this service.
