Each year, for the 50 days from Easter Sunday to Pentecost Sunday, the people of St. John’s support a local philanthropic organization through our annual Easter Appeal.
In the face of shifting immigration policies and the termination of several crucial government programs, the Community Resource Center (CRC) is facing unprecedented need for family legal assistance support. The St. John’s Easter Appeal committee unanimously voted to direct any funds raised in this year’s Easter Appeal 2025 to these efforts at CRC. In addition, an anonymous St. John’s parishioner generously offered to match all funds raised dollar for dollar, up to $30,000. At the conclusion of the Easter Appeal — 50 days from Easter to Pentecost — $23,572.01 had been received for this effort. In addition, the generous matching parishioner donated the full match of $30,000 directly to CRC.
Funds raised in our Easter Appeal 2024 were dedicated to the Mamaroneck Larchmont Student Aid Fund (SAF), an organization that has been supporting Mamaroneck High School (MHS) seniors with dreams of college since 1937. SAF is a completely volunteer organization whose sole mission is to close the gap between what MHS students receive in federal, state, and other financial aid and the total cost of attending college, which can be prohibitive. Since its inception, SAF’s annual fundraising has helped over 3,000 MHS graduates fulfill their dream of a college education. In 2023, they helped 88 students, a full 22% of the MHS graduating class.
Our Easter Appeal 2023 supported Neighbors for Refugees (NFR), a Larchmont-based organization with an excellent track record of helping displaced persons fleeing violence and persecution to establish new lives in our wider community. We were pleased to not only support NFR financially with funds raised during the Easter Appeal, but also to provide the opportunity for parishioners to serve as “companions on the journey” to our assigned family for a year.
With our Easter Appeal 2022, we raised over $50,000 in support of the Larchmont Mamaroneck Community Counseling Center. The money was raised to empower LMCCC to provide a dedicated therapist who will have a physical presence at the high school level to promote dialog on mental health and safety to those students hardest to reach, and to reinvent the Community Coalition for Children and Families to expand prevention and advocacy programming for the schools and broader community.
