Easter Appeal 2024

In the radiance of the Resurrection’s joy, we acknowledge the reality that while we live in comfort, many in the world endure the burdens of violence, financial struggles, or grief. At St. John’s, we embrace this truth and are dedicated to effecting change in our local community through our annual Easter Appeal. Join us in transforming compassion into tangible support for those in need.

This year, St. John’s Easter Appeal is specifically dedicated to the Mamaroneck Larchmont Student Aid Fund, an organization that has been supporting Mamaroneck High School seniors with dreams of college since 1937. “SAF,” as it is colloquially known, is a completely volunteer organization whose sole mission is to close the gap between what Mamaroneck High School students receive in federal, state, and other financial aid and the total cost of attending college, which can be prohibitive. For many families, particularly for first-generation college matriculators, every little bit helps make the dream of higher education a reality – – and 40% of SAF’s award recipients are the first of their families to attend college.

SAF’s gifts of $1,000 to $4,000 (depending on need) help cover tuition and expenses such as books, housing, meals, and transportation. In turn, this means that students can potentially live on campus, spend more time studying and less time working at a paying job, and emerge from college with less debt.  Since its inception, SAF’s annual fundraising has helped over 3,000 MHS graduates fulfill their dream of a college education. Last year they helped 88 students, a full 22% of the MHS graduating class. The need is tremendous.

As we reflect on the blessings we enjoy as a congregation and within our families, let us not forget those whom we can uplift through our abundance. Your generous contributions will offer young members of our community greater opportunities to pursue higher education with a bit more ease. Together, let’s ensure that our support creates pathways for a brighter future for all.

In gratitude,

St John’s Easter Appeal Committee
