St. John’s Youth Empowerment Council

 🚨 2025 Grant Application Now Open! 🚨
Click here to read more and to apply!

At St. John’s Church, we believe in the power and potential of our youth. The SJYEC is a dynamic new initiative designed to empower high school and college students by involving them directly in the grant-making process. This innovative program places the responsibility and privilege of philanthropy in the hands of our young leaders.

Membership and Commitment: High school and college students are invited to apply to join the SJYEC. Selected members will serve a two-year term (one time renewable), during which they will take on various responsibilities integral to the grant-making process.

As members of the SJYEC, students will:

  • Develop a Grant Process: Design and implement a structured grant application process tailored to meet the needs of our community.
  • Engage the Community: Actively promote the grant opportunity to local organizations, ensuring widespread awareness and participation.
  • Conduct Research: Thoroughly investigate and assess applicant organizations to determine their alignment with our mission and values.
  • Award Grants: Make informed and impactful decisions on grant recipients, fostering a sense of ownership and responsibility.
  • Host a Grant Distribution Ceremony: Plan and execute a ceremony to celebrate and honor the organizations selected for grants, highlighting the positive change they will bring to our community.
  • Through the SJYEC, students will gain invaluable experience in leadership, project management, and community service, all while making a tangible difference. Join us in this exciting venture and watch as the next generation of leaders emerges, driving positive change and uplifting our community.

Membership of the council will be made up of:

  • 7-10 Youth grade 9 through senior in college.
  • 2 adult advisors who will not have decision-making authority but will be able to help the youth by asking questions.
  • Director of Children, Youth, and Family Ministries
  • The Rector

To apply to be a member of this new Council, please consider the following:

  • I’m available for zoom meetings during the evenings or on Sunday twice a month.
  • I have a desire to make a difference in our world.
  • I want to enhance my leadership skills.
